2023 AQ Releases
The goal of this wiki page is to be a compilation of all the releases this year, with infosubs where possible, and a baseline analysis of the release. I’ll aim to keep my opinions mostly off this sheet, since it’s often hard to know how strong something is the week it’s released. However, I do input my opinions in some spots, just keep in mind they're my opinions as a player, and not objective fact. Please reach out to Grace for any corrections or strong opinions or suggestions about how to change or improve this resource!
The first part of this document is somewhat of a ramble / undetailed set, because I only started paying close attention to releases at the start of 2023, the previous stuff is just gathered from roughly September 2022 from memory.
- AQs 20th Anniversary Finished: Storm of the century quest with choke + panic potency shield, new faces, weapon, and armor. Found at Chessmaster Saga > Season of Consequences, or Twilly > Annivesary Events
- 20th Anniversary LTS had paralyze and energy freeze potency cupcake, Bone China Dark shield, teapot, and bleed rhino, and earth freeze spell and pet. Now Rare without painting.
- Mogloween Quest and boosted Back to school rewards droprates. Moglween introduced a misc that gives 200 SP once per battle on click (nice), and back to school introduced some mid weapons, a few faces, and a weaker but non elemental bloodzerker armor (Academy Elegance) with two gender versions and some other frills
- Harvest Golem Monster: Seasonal random battle that gives melee ranged and magic weapons as a shop reward with wind weapons with a click skill to inflict windswept (we should ask devs to make a challenge mode with a house guard in its shop!)
- Siphon Poison GGB UR katanas were released
- Harvestfest quest with great f2p backlash armor and Black Friday package sets
- Psycho Saber updated to not softlock the game, and changed to have cooler guest interactions, and foam finger clone items added to GGBs (elf arsenal or something)
- Panic status revamped, overall much stronger now, slightly more difficult to inflict without potency stacking, but stronger for eating purposes and defensive purposes, as each instance is stacked separately, and it's no longer capped at 5%
- Frostvale: Ice set “Knightmare”, Pet that gives half damage for barrier, STR / DEX spell that eats panic up to healing for triple power, and is based off Ice resistance, misc with 20 panic potency and 12.5% heal resistance, weapon inflicts 15% panic on attack
- Freeze spells don’t take the foe over 200% resistance now
December Week 4: New Years LTS Update + New Dragon Blade
- MADM (Multi attacking defensive arsenal) Wind Weapons and Shield:
- MADM Arsenal: Melee, ranged, magic toggle 0 proc weapon. Switches between two modes, one gives -9 MRM and +20% damage, one gives -15% damage and +12 MRM. Both very strong effects.
- MADM Barrier: Two modes, one gives 12 MRM for increasing incoming damage by 10.7%, one gives -14.2% incoming damage but lowers MRM by 9. Very strong shield for dodge builds and extreme tank builds.
- Cloudstrike Guardian Dragon Blade: Clone of other guardian dragon blades, but for wind
January Week 1: Delivery War End, Frostvale Giftboxes, and Possessed Diabolical Blade
- Frostvale 2022 Delivery War ended, releasing Knightmare Set’s Armor and shield. The armor has a Toggle for FO or FD, a damage skill that’s slightly different for FD and FO versions, and a celerity toggle if you use the skill in either mode. The shield is an endurance based Ice clone of the HDL shields.
- The Frostvale Giftboxes Opened to reveal the Kringle set (everything is ice):
- Weapons: -5 bth lean, +20% damage if enemy has fragile, or toggle to heal SP, double strength of HDL if foe has fragile
- Spell: 4 hits Trades half damage to inflict fragile on Ice res at -20 save
- Shield: +20 Fragile Potency
- Misc: +10 MRM and BTH, toggles between -50 incoming ice damage or +20 outgoing ice damage. 10% bonus trigger on fragile for -5% downtrigger
- Pet: Normal damage, toggles to damage SP and eat fragile for bonus damage. Potentially being looked at for adjustments. +15 bth lean
- Armor: FO Ice armor, 1.85 elecomp, no secondaries. 3 skills, Overcharged spell type nuke, SP normally, MP if holding a magic weapon. 3 hit weapon based skill with elecomp to damage. Imbue with ice and with 5 turn -16.7 fragile, based on accuracy, not damage dealt.
- One developer got a birthday item in the LTS Shop: Possessed Diabolical Blade: A melee sword that can be clicked for a light imbue which inflicts turns of soul rend based off damage dealt.
January Week 2: Thursday the 12th (Ice version)
- Several GGB Items and LTS items:
- Bone Chilling Mason Form: Ice mason form with damage based choke imbue, has color custom elements in the armor
- Deatharrows Cat (Dark and ice versions): Gives +30 Elevuln to their element
- LTS (starting with old items, ending with new:
- Shattered Mirrorblade: melee light sword inflicts unlucky on special
- Broken Mirror Shield: Light shield with magic focus, inflicts 214 unlucky if you block all hits, underrated IMO
- Summon Mason’s Remains: Token water dark seeking guest, practically outdated as of release of call luna style katshiro, which is a f2p SP version
- 2 Mason Masks, Mason LTS Painting which lets you access the shop year round
- Unfortunate Umbrella: Very powerful ranged water spear, token cost, can increase lucky strike damage or increase weapon damage on a toggle
- Unlucky Chainblade / Silent Stalker / Screaming Bow: Dark weapons that pay a -10% downtrigger for dealing +20 damage against feared targets. Bow has a -10 bth lean, making it a potent high damage ranged 100 Proc, now outcompeting homework cannon
- Bugfixes / other updates: Benthic Shank was patched, and is now a simple water light melee compression sword
- As well: Master fighter was updated so that its skill wasn’t bugged anymore, and now deals extra damage to bosses
January Week 3: Music, Queen’s Crown, and Negative Autohit
- AQ now has three songs, one in Battleon, one in normal battles, and one in boss fights. The transitioning is a little clunky on release (stops suddenly / starts suddenly) and they’re looking to patch it soon
- In addition, sound effects now have a volume slider, so they won’t blast your eyes anymore (unless you like that I guess)
- Attacks against negative monster resists now autohit. Good for some niche circumstances, like Wicked King
- The status page has a little more space than it used to
- The Queen’s Crown misc was released, giving 50 CHA END, +22% water damage, and compressing a guest, the Queen’s Corgi, which is essentially a water clone of mogdin, with a damage mode, and a 0 damage paralysis mode. Found in Yulgar’s Memorial Shop
January Week 4: Donation Stretch Goals and Gamblers Blade
- The winter donation event goals for both tokens and gold were reached, (shoutout to PD, Jeanne, and Primate Murder for doing 20% of the entire thing!), and two new items were added to Chilly’s shop in the Frostvale village
- Axe of Kindness: 20 Proc rainbow element axe with melee ranged magic versions. The special gives the player 156 charisma, and on each turn you attack with the weapon, your pet and guest damage is increased by 25%.
- Slaymore of Kindness: 0 Proc Ice sword with melee ranged magic versions. Can click to skip your turn and give 25% pet hypercrit for four turns and 25% ice guest empowerment for four turns. It’s based off of stats, and it’s 25% weaker for magic. It can’t be stacked multiple times.
- The Gambler’s blade package was also updated to be more up to date, but none of its effects were changed
February Week 1: Donation drive ending, Snugglefest, Groundhog and Hedgemog Clones. (1 day late)
- Donation drive mini sets: Shadowstalker (Gold) and Devoured Earth (Tokens). These are perma rare if you weren’t around for the donation contest 🙁 showcase video here and here
- Miscs: Shadowstalker Charm gives 50% light and dark resistance, and 20 Dark freeze potency (eclipsed). Devoured Stone Memory gives 10 status potency, and either 50% earth resistance or 20% earth damage. With the weapon and shield, it gives 20 status potency.
- Shields: Shadowstalker Guard gives -26 Dark res, and also provides 26% resistance to all attacks if you’re against a shadow creature, or against a shifter creature. This makes defending against shadow monsters much stronger, especially when combined with the misc.
- ShadowStalker’s Cunning/Ferocity/Wisdom: Darkness weapons, they seek between dark and harm against shadow monsters, and do 20% bonus damage if you have the misc and shield equipped. They have an SP click skill, which does 3 dark hits and attempts to apply a darkness freeze on the foe. If you are fighting a shadow monster or a monster with freedom, it instead does a pure damage harm attack. If you have the full set against a shadow or freedom monster, it does void damage.
- Devoured Apex/Conquest/Pinnacle: Earth weapons with -5 bth lean and a 5% damage MC. Click the hilt to toggle into an autohit form dealing 80% damage, and loses ⅓ damage to heal you per hit you land on the opponent, capped at four hits. The heal is normally at 95% power, and goes to 110% power against a burning, bleeding, or poisoned foe. You heal about 30-50 per hit, without any modifiers.
- Snugglefest: Love or Thunder: Released three new items:
- Thunder Gown / Groom: Spellcaster lean energy armor with a built in energy spell with MP cost. No notable secondary resistances, basic MRM.
- Hammerfall: Token cost efficient energy spell, MC makes the spell deal 1.5x LS damage.
- Seasonal LTS:
- Shadow Hedgemog: A dark clone of Hedgemog
- Blazing Groundhog: Fire clone of groundhog, defends against Ice. Weaker than kitsune for UR GGBs pet because it has nothing flashy.
- Radiant Superb Owl: Light clone of the Superb Owl Pet
February Week 2: GGB Crossover Extravaganza (3 days late)
- There are way too many items to talk about and list out here, so I’m simply going to link the video I made right here
- If you’re interested in finding direct infosubs, either use google, or go back to the infosubs pages for February 2023, and you’ll find the list of items for each category
- That being said, some highlights are the pridelord pet and guest, rare boxes that are clones of the Spotter drake pet but for fire, the Mosquito pet and guest, clone of the Jelly pet but for wind, and the Invicible Heart spell, a clone of invincible star, and Quad Mod, clone of Quadforce.
February Week 3: Snugglefest Shop Update
- This week, there was an update to the snugglefest 8 portrait quest, which released two new weapons, and one new shield
- Book of Love: Token cost energy tome, which has three spells and a draw mana function. It has a pure damage energy spell, an efficient (257 MP) spell that eats up to 250% melee in control to do that much extra damage, and a 257 MP spell that takes your turn to give a 3 turn +90 CHA boost.
- Sweetheart Spear: An energy spear that deals 33% more damage if you blocked all the monster’s hits last turn (if you blocked 2 out of 3 hits, you get ⅔ of the damage boost). This effect is doubled to 66% if you are using the shield.
- Sweetheart Shield: Normal energy shield, except that it maxes out at -25 to a resistance, so that it can have 14 Melee, 14 Ranged, 18 Magic. It can toggle to pay 98 SP to gain 15 MRM
February Week 4: Legion Deery Release and Legion Shield Cake
- Legion Shield Cake: A dark clone of shield cake shields, except that it has an accuracy boost and an elempower instead of a damage reduction and eleshield.
- Legion Deery Guest: Ice Guest that can toggle to have increased upkeep cost and deal +50% boosted harm damage
- Legion Deery Pet: Ice Pet that can toggle to have upkeep cost and deal +50% harm damage. This is a new best in slot for harm damage in the pet slot
- Both the pet and guest are found by battling and defeating the Legion Deery Monster, an Ice monster only available seasonally. The easiest way to find it is battling and fleeing glacius as a paxia defence / attack, as shown in this video at this timestamp
March Week 1: Huntress and Yulgar Devourer Saga Update, Legion LTS Shop (Tome 2 days late)
- We were treated to 3 devourer quest updates (all three are cutscene only, but now have shops for a Yulgar and Huntress Face for each, a Yulgar Wanted poster, and a misc listed below:
- Red Moondial: Costs 79 SP per turn, provides .5 water resistance and 50 STR and DEX. It also gives 20.6 Cold potency.
- Legion Fan: A melee magic toggle dark weapon that can do pure damage or spend 50% damage to bleed the foe at a -20 save (.236 bleed if both hits connect)
- Underworld Tome: A tokens cost dark magic tome with 3 spells in which one does full damage at full cost, with a 5% damage penalty if the opponent isn’t feared. If the opponent is feared, it eats up to 400% melee to do triple damage (400% melee in fear is equal to ~3.35 turns of 100% fear, or ~7 turns of 50% fear. It also has a efficient INT boosting spell, which boosts INT by ~90 for 3 turns, including the cast turn. Finally it has a free cost spell that only takes your turn, and inflicts a 4 turn 26% x dark resistance fear on the foe, similar to War’s Legacy’s Panic ability
- Light of Destiny Axes: All four cost tokens. The dark and ice versions toggle between melee ranged and magic, and can cleanse you from CC. The water and second dark versions increase the damage you take to deal 15% increased damage to the foe, the MC also gives 5% damage, totaling 20% damage.
- Finally, there was a bug fix that causes boss boost to now affect celerity. This is kind of a big deal if celerity sources aren’t updated to either be aided by potency, or changed to be autoinflict (an update is stated to come "in Autumn"), since it makes the best f2p available source of celerity, shadowfeeder pendant, massively weaker. It also completely guts “random chance” esque celerity effects, such as the effects on your body heals at the speed of light, troofle fur, and the overlord set
- Finally 2: There was a bug fix somewhat recently that made the necro ice dogs and the necro dracholiches no longer inflict double their intended value of status
March Week 2: Legion GGB Update
- We received several new Legion themed items in the GGBs, set to rotate out sometime in May. They include the following items
- Legion Glaive: UR. An ice spear that can go 0 proc or 100 proc on toggle (2 hits), and trades half weapon damage for an ice siphon poison up to power 5 siphon for 2 turns, based off hitcount, maximum bonus at 4 hits.
- Legion Lantern: UR: Boosts ice damage by 20, and pays an additional ~195 SP (50% melee) to inflict an ice burn based off ice hitcount from you, pets and guests. 8 hit cap, capping at power 10 burn for 2 turns.
- Legion Ghoul: R: Ice dark compression guest / pet and a third dual element mode (4 hits) that gains a notable damage boost for being dual element and paying a slight HP cost.
- Also some legion ghoul faces came out
- Several older legion items also came back seasonally
- Additionally, a new forum conversation on the stat revamp began quite recently, and has been the topic of heavy discussion. For a TLDR, ranged ramping is being changed to something else, maybe a different ramping system, or maybe an accuracy based boost to damage, or something else entirely. STR is getting a flat power buff, by a currently unsure mechanism, but probably a raw SP boost. INT may or may not stay the same, LUK is getting immobility resistance, and DEX is being decoupled from CHA for pet and guest accuracy, they’ll follow your highest mainstat instead
March Week 3: Blarney War 2023
- This week, the Blarney war began. It has a weapon reward, and a face reward, which are shown below. There’s not much else to say until the war ends about Blarney.
- However, there was also a change to the Mogsterio guest. It was changed to have its backstab chance upped from ⅕ to ⅓ , but the damage was lowered each backstab to compensate. The infosub explanation was somewhat confusingly written, so many people (myself included) thought it was a nerf because of cost updates, but it was in fact a change to make it so the player wouldn’t lose half their HP extremely fast if they got an unlucky streak of backstabs. Now the damage is more common, but lower.
March Week 3: April Fools, Burpsy Package, and Sabre Toothed Grenwog Update
- This week, we had the old April Fools events come back, the Sabre Toothed Grenwog 6k Package pet was updated to have a choke mode, and the 20k Package (50$) Burpsy’s Jackpot package was released, containing three weapons, two faces, one misc and one title. The new April Fools event has not released yet.
- Sabre Toothed Grenwog: The 20$ 6k token package was updated to work better for level scaling, and it was given a choke mode, at ~37% * Earth Resistance with a CHA vs END save.
- Burpsy’s Sceptre / Box / Staff: 20 Proc melee club, 100 Proc ranged “bow” with 20 proc true special, and 20 Proc magic staff. All weapons pay 40% weapon damage and 6 MRM (magic pays 12 instead) to deal a power .25 energy poison for four turns, Mainstat vs End
- Gas Bomb: Energy misc, gives *.5 resistance to energy, and 50 END. It has two quickcast effects, you can pick one each turn. Both cost 100% melee in SP (392 SP), and have a -20 save roll, mainstat vs end. Laughing Gas Bomb inflicts a 25% * Energy resistance choke for four turns, and Confusion Gas Bomb inflicts a 47% * Energy resistance control for two turns. And extremely potent choke option, as it is quickcast. Its control competes heavily with Love Potion.
