Introduction

Levelling in AQ is tedious; this guide hopes to make it as pain-free as possible from character creation to 150.

Important Note
If you're only concerned with getting out of the early-game scaling issues, follow this guide until you are either 75 or 90.

Assumptions

This guide assumes the following:

  • Levelling is done with INT/END as the main stats.
  • No access to rares/seasonals/GGB items (IE only uses always-available gold gear)
  • Character is Guardian (and by extension has access to the Item Upgrader).
  • No access to Shared Vault.
  • Character has a House.
  • Minimal non-farming is done (IE this guide assumes all that will be done is farming to 150 with as little extra work required as possible)

Adventurers can still follow this guide, but will be noticeably slower due to the limitations of Free-to-Play.

Stat Distribution

Note
Due to gold costs being based on the final stat value, it's highly recommended that stats are trained in bulk.
Level INT END
10 50 0
14 65 0
20 65 0
26 65 0
30 80 0
40 150 50
50 150 100
60 150 150
70 200 150
80 200 200
90 250 200
100 250 250

After maxing out both INT and END, no other stat investment is required.

Potion Gathering

Location: The Inn » Go to lounge » Sage Uldor » Burning Solstice » The Answer » Fight as War!

Leveling is made much easier with potions. As of writing, the potions provided when fighting as War can be kept by closing the client after completing the first battle and starting the second.

Level 1-15: Shadowfall 2

Location: Mage Shop » Quests » War Between Shadows » Shadowfall 2 » 25%

Essential Items

  • Ray of Light (Mage Shop » Beginner Magic)
  • Galanoth Guest (acquired via Guest List in the quest)

Strategy

  1. Cast Ray of Light over and over until 15. Use the Ring of Precision misc for faster kills
    • Every 5 levels, back out of the quest and put all stat points into INT.

Level 1-55: Akriloth

Location: Rip in the Sky » First Left Doorway » Click Center Brown Altar » Go Arrow » 3rd Scroll on Table

Notes
1) Currently, this method is only accessible to guardians.
2) During this section of the guide, you will likely see popups that inform you that you are at your level cap. Ignore them, the level cap is a complicated system that can be misleading at times. However, if you start receiving 0 XP for any battles, this means you have truly hit your level cap, and cannot level anymore. Other content (Quests, Classes, Item Hunts) can still be enjoyed however.

Essential Items and Stats

  • Stats: Simply choose your favorite of STR, DEX, or INT to max out as you level
  • Ice melee or ranged weapons or spells from Yulgar, Robina, or Warlic
  • Loremaster's Tome (INT Builds Only) (Travel Map » Sail East » Sail Southeast » Falerin's Memorial » Loremaster Tome)
  • Basic weapons or spells of at least 4 elements from Yulgar, Robina, or Warlic (for Zard Arena)
  • Post level 15: Heroic Titan Misc (Upgrade at level 35 and 55) (Ballyhoo and Upgrades » Reward Shops » Contests > Heroic Titan)
  • Post level 15: Heroic Titan Shield (Upgrade at level 35 and 55) (Ballyhoo and Upgrades » Reward Shops » Contests > Heroic Titan)

Strategy

Due to a peculiar quirk of certain types of level scaling monsters, the Akriloth from the Fire War Scroll quest in the Rip in the Sky Library rewards exponentially higher XP than one might expect for a level 1-55 Monster, (it scales with player level). For this reason, simply complete the fire war quest. After completing the quest, your XP bar will be full, so that you'll level up whenever you complete a battle. For this reason, go to the guardian tower arena, and complete the zard battle until you stop leveling up. It features 8 level 1 fights, so it is a quick location to gain levels. After you stop leveling up each fight, repeat the Akriloth quest. Repeat this pattern until you gain zero XP per fight. As you gain levels, level up your mainstat (INT for spells, DEX for ranged weapons, STR for melee weapons). If you run out of gold, watch a single ballyhoo video, then max it out. Ballyhoo rewards more gold the higher level you are, so it is wise to wait until you've capped on XP for the day before using all your videos. This is the reason only one watch at a time is recommended. The XP you receive from Akriloth may fluctuate from kill to kill. This is normal and expected. At level 35, you will be able to level more quickly using other methods, however this method is still very effective up until level 55.

Level 15-35: Sizzler

Location: Mage Shop » Mastercraft Sets » Geocastellum Set » Intro Quest

Important Note
If this is the first time doing this quest on the character, or you do not have a Shared Vault, complete this quest by rescuing Barry and grab Sizzlers' 'Splosion. This will be required later in the guide.
Notes
1) This method is meant to be completed at 75 INT. Do not upgrade your stats until level 35. At level 35, make sure you upgrade your stats appropriately for the next method you've chosen, as you will likely run out of gold otherwise.
  • All listed spells are found in Warlic's Beginner Magic Shop
    • Hailstorm
    • Rainstorm
    • Vanquish Shadow
    • Earthstrike
    • Current Event
    • Blaze
  • The below armor can toggle to be spellcaster lean, which increases outgoing spell damage by 1.375x, greatly increasing questing speed. It is not strictly required, but highly recommended
    • Fungibushi Armor (Ballyhoo and Upgrades » Reward Shops » Contests » Fungibushi)

Strategy

Go forward with the quest until you meet a Sizzler, and use your Current Event spell to kill it.

  • You will likely have to complete the quest twice to reach level 35, although it is RNG dependent.
  • After level 35, Sizzlers provide minimal XP. This is expected, and not something to be concerned about. When you reach this point, continue to your next method of choice.

Level 30-40: Guard Sheep

Location: Your House » Visit Neighbor » 87915605 » Specific Neighbor

Note
Currently, this method is outdated. It is recommended to use other methods instead, although this will still work.

Essential Items

  • Loremaster's Tome (Travel Map -> Sail East -> Sail Southeast -> Falerin's Memorial -> Loremaster Tome)
  • Lumenomancer's Robes (You will need to train Mage Class to level 10 first before progressing to Wizard Class training)

Strategy

Cast "The Good" from the tome until defeated.

Level 35-55: WereDragon

Location: Your House » Visit Neighbor » 5474438 » Specific Neighbor

Notes
1) This monster can be defeated by multiple builds, depending on the item requirements. For a fresh player, the INT method has the least questing requirements, while the warrior method requires more questing.
2) The Arena of Enthusiasts mentioned below is in fact accessible by non-guardian characters.
3) The clan for the optional use of the Olympax Unity Medal in this section must be set to Igneus.

Mage Essential Items and Stats

  • Galanoth Temp Guest (Mage Shop » Quests » War Between Shadows » Shadowfall 2 » Guest List)
  • Goggernaut Helm (Guardian Tower » Nimrod's Quests » Arena of Enthusiasts » Normal Battles)

Strategy

Mage

Equip all gear, including the temporary Galanoth guest, before the battle starts. Cast Arrows of Honor repeatedly. If you are unlucky, you may run out of mana before it dies. Drink a mana potion and continue casting. If you are very unlucky, you may die on rare occasions. At level 40, Upgrading to Destruction Burst will make your kills faster and more reliable. The same is true at level 50 with Cosmic Blaze. If you wish to increase reliability, you can first fill your SP bar before going into the battle, and every two turns, use Olympax Unity Medal's Quickcast elemental empowerment. This is not faster than doing it normally unless you possess an item to quickly refill your entire SP bar.

Warrior

Equip all gear, including the temporary Galanoth guest, before the battle starts. Addionally, fill your SP bar. This can be achieved by quickly ending turns at combat practice trainer without a guest, or using essence orb. Win initiative with H series armor. Toggle H Series to Overdrive Mode, be sure to activate Ironthorn Shield's STR boost toggle. For the first turn, attack twice. For the second turn, attack once in H series, then switch to Bulk, and attack until the dragon dies. There is a low chance of failure with this method.

Level 55-150: Shadow Rocs

Location: Your House » Visit Neighbour » See Below » Specific Neighbour

Notes
1) Mighty shadow roc is a very effective house guard to level at, because it provides massive amounts of XP, and has a low HP total. The reason it has a low HP total is because it has not only very high base dodge, but an RNG auto dodge mechanic, which on paper, makes it much more tanky. However, this can be circumvented by using auto hit effects, which allows much lower level players to successfully get kills.
2) There are avenues for mages, rangers, and warriors to successfully kill the roc. The ranger and warrior method are very similar.
3) At very specific level brackets (~55-60), rangers will be between 15-5 SP short of casting Missile Barrage again. This can be solved by re-equipping Celtic Wheel and Ironthorn and untoggling them, which refunds a minimum of 17 SP, unequipping the sword master emblem misc, if needed, refunds a minimum of 9 SP.
4) Wizard doesn't need to be trained to level 10, but helps with consistency due to higher damage output.

Strategy

Pre-Fight Prep

  • Fill SP at Combat Practice Trainer, ensure your stat boost shields are toggled to be active.
    • For Warrior and Ranger: Enter the battle, and win initiative. There is a small chance you will not win initiative. If so, leave, refill your SP, and try again.
    • For Mage: Endure the first turn if you lost initiative.

Warrior

  1. Equip H Series, Ironthorn, Olympax Medal, and Burden of Insight.
  2. Ensure Burden of Insight is toggled to autohit, Ironthorn is toggled to boost strength, and H Series Overdrive onslaught is active.
  3. Click Olympax Medal and use its "imbue" skill to lock weapon damage to earth.
  4. Equip sword master emblem.
  5. Attack twice. This should take the monster to notably low HP, or kill it.
  6. After the monster attacks, simply attack again to finish it off.

Ranger

  1. Equip H Series, Celtic Set Shield, Olympax Medal, and Burden of Insight.
  2. Ensure Burden of Insight is toggled to autohit and H Series Overdrive onslaught is active.
  3. Cast Moonwalker's Grace.
  4. Click Olympax Medal and use its "imbue" skill to lock weapon damage to earth.
  5. Equip sword master emblem and Moonfang Omen Shield.
  6. Use the Missile Barrage skill twice.
  7. You will often kill the Mighty Shadow Roc here, if you don't get the kill on the first two attacks, you may need to use a Galanoth Ally Assist to finish the fight on your next turn.

Mage

  1. Equip Geomancer's Robe, Earth Magestaff and either Celtic Wheel or Luminous Shield.
  2. Activate "Imbue with Lore" from Geomancer's Robe.
    1. If you chose to use Celtic Wheel ensure it's toggled to boost INT.
  3. Cast Sizzlers' Splosion using potions as needed.
