 Neko Subraces

General Information

Neko is simply put, the best and only FD armours that should ever be used, thanks to a combination of providing everything FD builds want, and a lack of good non-Neko options. As a result, all non-subrace entries on this page will reflect this mindset.

Neko is split internally into two versions: Sol and Luna. Despite this, there is no exclusivity; Sol can use Luna armours and gain full access to their skills and vice-versa. The no-drop variant can be switched by talking to Katshiro in Haven.

The table below lists the builds that are typically associated with each Neko Subrace.

Standard Armours

Jolly Bard of War

MC FD Fire armour. Ranged > Magic > Melee blocking. Comes with two toggles, and a skill:

  • Inspire Pet (toggle): Increases damage taken lean by +0.2. While active, attempts to give Pet Celerity each turn. This has +0 Save Bonus, player CHA/LUK vs. monster CHA/LUK.
  • Inspire Guest (toggle): While active, attempts to give Guest Celerity each turn. This has +0 Save Bonus, player CHA/LUK vs. monster CHA/LUK.
  • Ukulele Hero: Fire Spell-Type skill. Uses CHA for damage and accuracy. EleComp increases skill damage.

The best generically useful FD armour for Beastmasters of any kind barring subraces, thanks to selective passive Celerity.

Matchmaker

MC FD Fire armour. Flat blocking.

  • MC: +7.5% weapon damage if using a bow or spear.
  • Flavour effect: Can toggle between dealing full damage and causing all weapon attacks to deal reduced damage (-38.7% if Melee/Ranged, -51.6% damage if Magic) and attempt to inflict a (50*[Hits]/[Attempts])% Control. This has -10 Save Bonus, player DEX/STR vs. monster CHA/LUK.
  • Certified Matchmaker: Quickcast skill. After casting:
    • Grants Celerity.
    • Applies a -12.75 Blind to the player for 1 turn.
    • Locks the player into the armour until the end of the monster's next turn.

A free alternative to Jolly Bard of War.

Warmaster Dragon Rider

MC FD Fire armour with Darkness secondary. Melee > Magic > Ranged blocking.

  • MC: +10 Burn Potence.
  • Flavour Effect 1: Deals +10% damage if the enemy is Burning. -5% damage otherwise.
  • Flavour Effect 2: Pays 3 MRM for skill compression.
  • Breath of War: Fire Spell-Type skill. Follows weapon type. EleComp increases skill damage. Deals -75% damage. Attempts to inflict a Power: (5*[EleComp]*[Hits]/[Attempts]) Fire Burn for 6 turns (Power: 7.23 at 150). This has +0 Save Bonus, player (Weapon Mainstat)/LUK vs. monster END/LUK.
    • Attrition (toggle): Changes what the Burn inflicted by Breath of War damages:
      • Burning: HP.
      • Exhausting: MP.
      • Agonizing: SP.
  • Warmaster (toggle): Pays 50% Melee in SP per turn (196 at 150). While toggled, outgoing armour attacks deal 1.25x damage instead of 0.8x. This boost does not affect spells, or wands. Upkeep is reduced by 7.5% Melee in SP (29 at 150) for each resource (HP, MP, SP) that is currently Burning, up to 15% (up to 59 SP at 150).

A niche armour specializing in extremely powerful Fire Burns, with the added bonus of being able to target non-HP bars, functionally removing them from fights against monsters that use them.

Wicked King's Plate

MC FD Fire armour. Magic > Melee > Ranged blocking focus. Comes with a skill:

  • Wicked Inferno: Fire Spell-Type skill. Deals either Ranged or Magic damage, depending on player stats. EleComp increases skill damage.

The only non-subrace FD Fire armour that's always available, and the only option for F2P.

Overflowing Typhon Shard

MC FD Water armour. Melee > Magic > Ranged blocking. Does various things:

  • Flavour Effect: Pays 6 MRM for +10 Omni Status Potence.
  • Legendary Visage (Toggle): If sufficient resources are available, pays 50% Melee in SP (196 at 150) when attacking in this armour (Weapon/Special/Spell) and attempts to inflict a -(23.81*[MobRes]*[Hits]/[Attempts])% Panic, where [MobRes] is the element of that last hit that connects. This has -10 Save Bonus, player Mainstat/LUK vs. monster CHA/LUK.
  • Terrifying Onslaught: If sufficient resources are available, pays 50% Melee in SP (196 at 150) on attack for the following effects:
    • Locks armour attacks (not specials or spells) to Water. EleComp increases normal attack damage.
    • Each hit that connects does the following:
      • Attempts to inflict a Power: 0.75 Water Burn for 4 turns. This has +0 Save Bonus, player Mainstat/LUK vs. monster DEX/LUK.
      • Heals 10% Melee in HP (~35 at 150).

A very powerful, status-oriented armour, offering Omni Potence, Panic, and an elelock.

New Wave Bard of War

Lost Talon Guardian

MC FD Wind armour. Ranged > Melee > Magic blocking. Normal attack has 2 hits. Comes with two skills:

  • Talon Barrage: Wind Spell-Type skill. Has 4 hits. EleComp increases skill damage. Deals -17.85% damage and attempts to inflict a (5*[Hits]*[WindRes]*[EleComp])% Pinned effect (renamed Panic) until the monster makes a save. This has a -10 Save Bonus, player DEX/LUK vs. monster STR/LUK.
  • Wind Fracture: Wind Spell-Type skill. Has 1 hit. EleComp increases skill damage. Deals -50% damage and attempts to inflict the following:
    • +(42*[EleComp])% Wind EleVuln for 3 turns.
    • Permanent -(5*[EleComp]) Omni Status Weakness.
      • Resist both at once with +0 Save Bonus, player DEX/LUK vs. monster END/LUK. This save is considered EleVuln for the sake of potence modifiers.
    • Note: After a successful infliction, skill is disabled for the rest of the battle.

A powerful Wind armour that synergizes with statuses due to providing generic status potence with its second skill.

Fungibushi Armour

MC FD/Spellcaster Wind armour with Ice and Light secondaries. Flat blocking. Comes with three skills:

  • Flavour Effect: Pays 3 MRM. If the enemy is afflicted with a capped instance of Spore at the start of your turn, increases the cap of that instance by +50%.
  • Fungal Flexibility: Once per battle, swap between FD and Spellcaster.
  • Mushroom Might (Toggle): Locks normal attacks (including specials, but not skills) to Wind. EleComp increases damage dealt.
  • Sporcery: Standard Wind Spell. EleComp increases spell damage.

Fungibushi offers something for everyone. Warriors and Rangers able to benefit through the elelock from Mushroom Might, while Spellcasting Mages can take advantage of Sporcery. Best used with other parts of the Fungibushi set.

(Festive/Retro) Bard of War

Cherub

MC FD Wind armour. Flat blocking. Can toggle between 3 modes, each with their own skill:

  • Star Arrows:
    • Normal Attacks: Normal damage.
    • Love Hurts: Harm Spell-Type Skill. Deals -10% damage for being Harm.
  • Heart Arrows:
    • Normal Attacks: Deal reduced damage (-38.7% if Melee/Ranged, -51.6% damage if Magic). Attempts to inflict a (50*[Hits]/[Attempts]*[WindRes])% Control. This has -10 Save Bonus, player Mainstat/LUK vs. monster CHA/LUK.
    • 729 Love Arrows: Wind Spell-Type Skill. EleComp increases skill damage. Deals -52.5% damage. Attempts to inflict two effects:
      • A +40% Wind Elevuln for [Hits] turns.
      • Scramble the enemy's resistances, and applies an offensive lean (deals and takes +10*[Hits]% increased damage).
      • Resist both at once with -20 Save Bonus, player Mainstat/LUK vs. monster CHA/LUK. Save is considered EleVuln for the sake of immunities.
  • Broken Heart Arrows:
    • Normal Attacks: Deal reduced damage (-50% if Melee/Ranged, -66.7% damage if Magic). Attempts to inflict a -(29.8*[WindRes]) Blind for [Hits] turns. This has -10 Save Bonus, player Mainstat/LUK vs. monster CHA/LUK.
    • Bitter Storm: Wind Spell-Type Skill. EleComp increases skill damage. Deals -50% damage. Attempts to inflict two effects:
      • A Power: 4.76 Wind Burn for [Hits] turns.
      • A -(10+PowLvl/10) BtH lean Berserk (-24.3 BtH in exchange 142.38% damage at 143) for 2*[Hits] turns.
      • Resist both at once with -20 Save Bonus, player Mainstat/LUK vs. monster CHA/LUK.

An extremely versatile FD armour with a variety of effects. Cherub provides excellent utility if the raw power of a Wind Bard is not needed.

Ghost Costume

MC "FD" Wind armour. Flat blocking.

  • Flavour Effect: Takes 1.0x damage instead of 0.8x in exchange for +17 MRM.
  • MC: +3 MRM.

A unique FD armour. Rather than directly reducing damage taken, it "reduces" damage by having greatly increased blocking, creating great synergy with anything that can reduce hit chance further.

  • Wall of Wind: Quickcast skill. Applies a +24 MRM Defense Boost effect for 4 turns.

Regal ReignDragon Rider

  • Burning Bright: Ice Spell-Type skill. Follows weapon damage type. EleComp increases skill damage. Deals -25% damage and attempts to inflict a -(17.1*[IceRes]*[EleComp]) BtH Blind effect for [Hits] turns. This has -20 Save Bonus, player mainstat/LUK vs monster DEX/LUK.
  • Frostval Spirit (toggle): While toggled, if sufficient resources are available, pays SP to boost the BtH and damage of Pets and Guests by +8.5 and +20% respectively. Upkeep is paid on attack. Cost depends on which is being boosted:
    • Pet: 12% Melee (47 at 150).
    • Guest: 18% Melee (71 at 150).

Knightmare Plate

MC Neutral Ice armour. Magic > Melee > Ranged blocking focus. Comes with various effects:

  • Facets of Fear: Once per battle, changes lean:
    • Terror: Fully-Defensive.
    • Horror: Fully-Offensive.
    • Lean resets at the end of battle back to Neutral.
  • Nightmare Rift: Requires Facets of Fear to be used first. Effect depends on lean:
    • Fully-Defensive: Ranged Ice Spell-Type skill. EleComp reduces cost (113 at 150).
    • Fully-Offensive: Locks armour attacks to Ice. Magic damage is converted to ranged. EleComp increases damage dealt.
  • Relentless Nightmare (Toggle): While toggled, if sufficient SP is available after attacking with Nightmare Rift, pays 105% Melee in SP (412 at 150) for 1 turn of Player Celerity. This cost is lowered to 90% Melee in SP (353 at 150) if the player has an active Barrier, or if the enemy has an active Panic.

Type-Z Necromech

MC FD Earth Armour Energy and Darkness secondary. Flat blocking. MC compresses two skills:

  • Necromotive Force (Toggle): Pays 8.75% Melee per turn (34 at 150) to increase either STR or DEX based on equipped weapon (+50 at 150).
  • Minion Dominion: Earth Spell-Type skill. Deals either Melee or Ranged damage, based on equipped weapon type. EleComp increases damage dealt.

A generically useful armour tailored for Warriors and Rangers. While Mages cannot benefit from the armour's skills, it can still server as an extremely useful compression item, covering three elements.

Geocastellum Robes

MC FD Earth armour. Flat blocking. Comes with a skill:

  • Geocastellum Barrier: Quickcast skill. Costs 100% Melee in SP (392 at 150). Cost is based off of the player's level. Deals no damage. Applies a 0.8393x Omni Eleshield for 4 turns.

A broken Earth armour thanks to its skill. Unlimited uses per turn turns an equally unlimited amount of potential resources into functional immortality See the table below for shield power:

Paladin

Tier 3 class. A generalist armour designed to combat Undead and Demons. Champion Holy Arcanist is oriented towards Beastmages while Champion Holy Avenger is oriented towards Beastrangers. See linked Info-Subs for full info. Some notable skills for Fully Defensive builds are as follows:

  • Level 6: Paladin Reinforcements: Celestial Manifestation and Paladin Apprentice.
  • Level 12: Mantra of Alignment: Fully Defensive Lean.
  • Level 17: Inspiring Radiance (Toggle): Boosts Pet/Guest damage and reduces damage taken at the cost of lowering player damage.

The best Light armour in the game. Fortunately, the Beastmaster parts of the class are not Title-Locked, meaning there's no opportunity cost for Beastmasters.

Jubilant Bard of War

MC FD Light armour. Ranged > Magic > Melee blocking. Comes with two toggles, and a skill:

  • Inspire Pet (toggle): Increases damage taken lean by +0.2. While active, attempts to give Pet Celerity each turn. This has +0 Save Bonus, player CHA/LUK vs. monster CHA/LUK.
  • Inspire Guest (toggle): While active, attempts to give Guest Celerity each turn. This has +0 Save Bonus, player CHA/LUK vs. monster CHA/LUK.

Necromancer

Tier 3 class. Designed for Beastmasters and INT builds. Commander's Obsidian Cloak is oriented towards Beastmasters, and (Spellslinger's) Obsidian Cloak is oriented towards (Beast)Mages. See linked Info-Subs for full info. Some notable skills for Fully Defensive builds are as follows:

  • Level 2: Raise Skeleton: All options.
  • Level 6: Wraithwork: Ghost Ally and Ancestral Wraith.
  • Level 12: Anima Attunement: Fully Defensive Lean.
  • Level 16: Twin Summoning: All options.

Commander's uses SP upkeep, Spellslinger's uses MP upkeep, and Obsidian Cloak can choose between SP or MP upkeep.

The best Dark armour in the game. Should be the Tier 3 class of choice for Beastmaster builds, as Necromancer's full Beastmaster suite is Title-locked.

Radiant Warhorse (Wind/Earth/Light)

Compresses Light (39), Wind (42), and Earth (42). Notable in that there is a temporary version that replaces your nodrop, freeing up armour slots. Because of this distinction, there's very little need to run any dedicated compression armours.
